This person will be responsible for the materials management function relating to production scheduling, planning, procurement, control and distribution of materials and products to meet Company objectives and customer requirements. This person will supervise Purchasing, Scheduling, and Inventory Control. This person will maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation costs and ensure the stocking of components at the appropriate areas. The manager will select transportation routes to maximize economy by combining shipments or consolidating, warehousing, and distribution. This person will also drive cost reduction using LEAN methodologies and creative purchasing methodologies. This person will use Performance Management in supervision and management of responsible areas, including purchasing, warehouse, scheduling, and inventory control. This person will monitor Performance metrics of self and subordinates recognizing employee accomplishments and counseling employees to ensure they meet expectations. This person will oversee and ensure proper production control, planning and scheduling of suppliers to meet sales forecasts. This manager will plan and initiate purchase orders through supplier contact and oversee the purchasing materials, supplies, equipment and services in accordance with existing procedures. This person will make planning decision on how and when product is purchased and received and investigate and solve problems resulting from material shortages. This manager will collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and quality assurance, to identify or qualify new suppliers. This person will oversee inventory transactions and supply for material shipped to other suppliers and develop or implement procedures or systems to evaluate or select suppliers. This manager will be responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery. This person will also develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such as sales, marketing, finance, production, or quality assurance. This person will develop, establish and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems that relate to the computer based manufacturing information system. This person will work with the finance department on developing product costing for all the product lines. This person must have strong negotiation skills to ensure deliveries, pricing and documentation are adhered to by all the supplier base. This manager will follow the official policy for Good Manufacturing Practices as required in the Medical Device Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This manager must have full understanding of shipping logistics with respect to domestic and import/export regulations.
This manager will directly supervise 4 to 6 employees in Purchasing, Scheduling, and Material Handling departments. Responsibilities will include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; Master’s Degree Preferred. Over five years purchasing software to manager procurement. Visual Manufacturing experience preferred. Experience in Regulated manufacturing business preferred (medical, pharmaceutical, automotive, etc.) and materials related experience using an MRP (material requirements planning).
