The molding technician will provide production support, prepare molds for production, set-up and start-up, maintain and troubleshoot injection molding processes and equipment, perform routine maintenance and repairs. This person will provide communication and feedback to supervision, Product Line Champions (PLC), engineering, and mold repair technician on issues and problems. This person will prepare molds for production by properly disassembling, cleaning, and lubricating and they will change inserts and markers when necessary. This technician will properly set up injection molding machines according to standard process parameters and set up water temperature controllers, dryers, manifold and sprue controllers, as well as secondary operation equipment. This person will also verify production running to set parameters and verify quality of parts at start up and they will complete all necessary documentation. This person will provide assistance to operators with start up and shutdown operations as well as training, and quality measurement issues. This molding technician will train operators on molding operations, secondary operations and equipment and they will perform preventative maintenance on molding machines and equipment. This person will troubleshoot and repair molding machines and equipment and work with department PLC to implement and maintain 5S, safety, and housekeeping standards. This person will implement and participate in improvement teams. This molding technician will participate in the mold development process and provide input to ensure robust tooling is designed and fabricated. They will also perform sampling on both prototype and production tooling as well as develop process parameters in conjunction with Molding Process Engineer, Validation Technician, and Quality Technician using design of experiments (DOE) and scientific molding techniques such as Gate Seal, Viscosity Curve, Cavity-Balance studies, and Reynolds Flow to debug and analyze performance of the molding press. This person will perform Operational Qualifications (OQ) on molding processes and work with manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop, test, and qualify secondary operations and equipment. They will work with engineering to obtain, install, set-up, and perform Installation Qualifications (IQ) on new equipment.
Education and /or Experience
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience plus five years experience in a manufacturing injection molding environment. Prior injection molding set-up experience, ability to operate various molding presses and familiar with cooling systems such a mokon unit is required. Ability to operate a standard lathe, milling machine and other tool-making equipment for fast turn around of simple to moderately complex tooling and fixturing would be desired.
